Top Ten Best and Worst Hold’Em Hands

One of the most important skills to have in online poker is the ability to instantly recognise the potential of your hand.

In this video PartyPoker Pro Kara Scott explains how to choose the winning poker hand

Top Ten Best Hold’Em Hands

1. Pair of Aces – Pocket Rockets, the holy grail of the online poker player.
2. Pair of Kings – “Cowboys” is generally regarded as the second best hand.
3. Pair of Queens – Finding two “ladies” as puts you in a strong position.
4. Ace and King of the same suit – Being dealt a suited Ace King offers some exciting opportunities. Think royal flush, a high full house, or high multiples.
5. Pair of Jacks –Referred to as hooks because of the two Js, a pair of jacks is the fourth highest pair.
6. Ace and Queen of the Same Suit – much like the Ace-King pairing an Ace-Queen deal leaves a good chance of catching a break on the flop.
7. Ace and Jack of the Same Suit – taking its nickname “blackjack” from another popular card game, this is a good starting hand.
8. Ace and King of Different Suits – An offsuit Ace-King Combo offers a good chance of high multiples or high straight.
9. King and Queen of the Same Suit – The royal couple present the possibility of high multiples, a high straight flush or even a royal flush.
10. Pair of Tens – the highest numbered pair.

Top Ten Worst Hold’Em Hands

1. Two and Seven of Different Suits – the offsuit Two-Seven draw is the worst Hold’em hand as the cards are too far apart to even make a straight on the flop.
2. Two and Eight of Different Suits – As above the offsuit Two-Eight offers little opportunity.
3. Three and Eight of Different Suits – Too far apart for the straight – low high card.
4. Three and Seven of Different Suits – The only realist hope is an unlikely straight.
5. Two and Six – Whether suited or unsuited the low card here makes these a bad bet even if you catch a break on the flop.
6. Two and Nine – Even the high card is not that high.
7. Three and Nine – As above.
8. Four and Nine – As above.
9. Two and Ten – Too much distance between cards – only thing going for this hand is the higher position of the Ten.
10. Five and Nine – Even if you catch a six-seven-eight on the flop the numbers are low and chances of a higher straight are high.
